You can submit a petition on any issue you like. Click ‘Create a Petition’ and fill in the form. The submission will then be ratified by the SUBU Executive Committee within 2 weeks of submission. If passed it will go live on the site and you can invite others to sign it in agreement.
If your petition reaches 400 signatures, it can then become a ‘Referendum’. The Referendum will then be open for voting for 4 term time weeks and if passed by a vote of a minimum of 5% of the student body (as stated by the University), it will become SUBU policy or adopted into the bye laws. A policy referendum requires a simple majority however bye law changes require a 75% majority.
